Day 20: Miami Kendall, FL or Key Largo, FL; 51 miles, 86 degrees, 96 on the pavement
We awoke today to news that there was a brush fire between US 1 and Card Sound Rd – the two routes in and out of the Florida Keys. So, we waited a bit before heading out. Southbound US 1 was open. It was not our original intended route but it worked just fine and got us to Key Largo. The brush fire burned about 350 acres and was totally contained by the time we got to the point of the fire, but sure did make for a busier traffic road since it was the only southbound route open.

Bill had another flat on the 18-mile stretch of US 1…how many men does it take to fix a flat?

The problem was a fishing hook – that had lodged itself in his front brake pad.

Just a couple of miles down the road, we discovered John, who had just fixed a rear tire flat and found that his front tire was also flat. Fortunately, we had a new tube that we could give him. Now we have an extra pair of hands to fix a tire…

We did make it to Key Largo and enjoyed dinner at Snook’s with a beautiful view of the sunset.

The shower was a 6.

Sounds like a tiring day! But glad you made it through to the Keys that day!
Gorgeous sunset! Makes up for a 6 shower.
Beautiful sunset—I have a big sigh and Hallelujah that you all made it safe and sound to Key Largo with those “interruptions”—perhaps even because of them🙏😊 God is good.
