Day 2, July 8, 80 miles and 4600 feet

Today started in Astoria and we cycled into the forests between Astoria and Portland ending in St Helens, which is named because there is a view of Mt St Helens across the Columbia River. We also cycled along several streams (probably rivers in the spring) on a road with beautiful view after beautiful view, including lots of wildflowers.

It’s pretty warm up here in the Pacific Northwest this week. Today it was about 99 degrees in St Helens. Fortunately, the warmest time of day is after 4 pm and we all finished riding by 3 pm. Oh, I almost forgot, Bill’s new wheel is working very well, and he enjoyed riding every mile today. 😊

It is so beautiful! And so glad Bill is rolling along.
In that temp, I think I’d want to be done by 11:00. You’re much better than I!
Yes, good to be done early. Today it was 1:15 and I was spent.
Foxgloves!
Oh yes, lots of pretty flowers in the first few days. Today, just a couple of lone sunflowers.
Gorgeous countryside!
