Day 8: Panama City, FL to Port St. Joe, FL, 40.6 miles, 82 degrees

About half of our morning ride was alongside Tyndall Air Force Base – that is a long base with quite a bit of construction underway to repair and rebuild after the hurricane. Our morning stop was in Mexico Beach.

Our afternoon stop was at the Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Center.

We learned about the nesting of various sea turtles. They don’t have any sea turtles at the center, something about not being permitted to keep them…??? They did have a few other types of turtles and tortoises, including the red-footed turtle and an African tortoise.

Before heading to the hotel, we needed to find lunch in Port St Joe, so we had a lovely meal at the Golden Arches. They were playing Christian worship music, so that was a bonus. I’ve never heard Christian music in McDonalds.

After dinner, we found a bit of ice cream at Shoobie’s. Does anyone know where the term Shoobie comes from?

Oh, and I almost forgot. Some of you will recognize this as “perfectly good wood.”

And finally, the shower had great potential, but came in at a 6.

So I am curious what Shoobies means. Sounds like you are having good weather and a good time.😊
Sounds interesting riding along the base and seeing the forgotten coast!
