Day 28 / Aug 3 / Mitchell, SD to Sioux Falls, SD / 72.6 miles and 1,438 feet / 97 degrees
Day 29 / Aug 4 / Rest day in Sioux Falls
The landscape today looked very much like the Midwest. Lots of soybean and corn farms and plenty of humidity. As one of the other riders noted, we could have been in Central Indiana or Central Illinois, but we weren’t. We were in Southeastern South Dakota.

Lots of miles with the road stretching in front of us…

Quite a few cattle farms too and even the cattle have to cool off in this heat. Other than that, there wasn’t much wildlife, but we could hear beautiful songbirds. I wish I would have been able to see them and identify them.

We did ride by this statue at the end of a driveway and wonder what he signified. Is he a memorial to a family member that went to war? It appears that there might be another statue further back on the right and a bald eagle on the left side of the driveway.

After dinner, we walked down to see the Falls on the Big Sioux River, you know, “Sioux Falls.” As you can see, it’s not a clean river.
