Day 8 – West Point, West Falkland Island – or at least that is what was scheduled
We were unable to tour on West Falkland Island as had been scheduled because of the wind. The captain even took the ship to the other side of the island to see if there was enough protection there and there was not. So another day at sea. I hope we don’t have too many aborted landings.
One of the first slides the expedition leader put up when we stared the cruise was this…and we are staring to understand what she meant. LOL

This looks like a whale.

Bill and I started the day by visiting the fitness center for a little run on the treadmill. Lunch included pig and lobster rolls. The crabs on display were a stand in for the lobsters, I guess. They were beautiful presentations.

There was a bit of time standing at the bow of the ship watching for wildlife. The best I could do were some birds.

The black-browed albatross

The southern tern

The Giant Petrel

Anyone recognize this bird??? I was unsuccessful with Merlin, the bird app. LOL

We finished the day with a lecture about the history of the Falkland Islands (there are 700 islands in the Falklands) and a 3-D documentary on the humpback whale. Believe it or not, I found the documentary to be pretty interesting and now I want to see a humpback whale.

We are hoping for better weather tomorrow on East Falkland island.
