Day 43 / Aug 18 / Tillsonburg, ON to Niagara Falls, ON / 91.3 miles and 1,753 feet / 78 degrees
Sunday was our final day of riding before our last rest day. We rode for a bit on the Trans Canada Trail – it was crushed limestone and was one of the better unpaved trails we have seen so far on this trip.
We also dodged rain all day – again. The guide setting up lunch said that it rained hard just after he put the tent up for lunch and 30 minutes later when we arrived to eat, the sun was out – and we didn’t have any rain while riding. 43 days with no rain. What a blessing for us – God is so good!
Coming into Niagara Falls, we crossed the Welland Canal using a lift bridge. While we were on the bridge, the bells started to ring to stop traffic and just after we left the bridge, it started to go up. I still wonder if they knew there were seven bikes crossing the bridge. I’ll assume that they saw us and intentionally waited to raise the bridge. Anyway, it was interesting to watch, but we didn’t wait for the barge to come through, as we decided to take advantage of the road while traffic was stopped on the other side of the bridge.

A fairly descriptive sign that makes cyclists take notice.

Our hotel is just across the street from a tattoo parlor and barber – quite a combination. It’s also just up the street from the Clifton Hill Fun Zone with all kinds of entertainment. It’s a bit like Las Vegas…I don’t remember it being this way in 1987.

We are fortunate to have a room with a view – first floor too!

Finally, I’ll leave you with some shots of the Falls – both day and night. There is a five-minute fireworks show every evening.

Wow that is amazing you have had no rain. God is so good for sure. 🙌
Cool pics of the falls.
And soon you will be done and heading home. Are you going to be able to run the marathon in October?
I’ve been wedding-ing (back and forth to Omaha) and just catching up on your travels. You do get around! 🙂
Did you get a tattoo? This seems like a must on such a big adventure!
