Day 48 / Aug 23 / Herkimer, NY to Latham, NY / 76.5 miles and 1,353 feet / sunny and 80 degrees with a light tailwind
It’s probably just as well that I don’t look at the routes for the future until the night before. We were back on the Empire State and Erie Canalway Trail today. Fortunately, only about 7 miles of the trail was unpaved because we were on the trail for almost all of the miles today. And, we finally had a sunny day again.

Because one of our guides had a bit of a road mishap this morning, we were all together for lunch, which is very unusual for this group. Not to worry, Darryl is fine – he’s the one in the photo behind Bill. We just had to wait at a water stop for him to get a pick up so he could get lunch ready and that resulted in the group members all arriving about the same time for lunch.

As you can tell from the photos, I follow Bill quite often.

Another view from the trail…could that be the Erie Canal?

One disappointment for me today…we passed a place called Lee’s Christmas Corner and we did not stop to see what they had that I couldn’t live without. Some of you will be shocked by that news!
I love native grasses and these are very pretty in the sunshine.

The Christmas Corner sounds lovely, sorry you couldn’t stop! Just another excuse to go back someday to shop 😉
