Day 52 / Aug 27 / Hooksett, NH to Portsmouth, NH with Maine added in / 53.6 miles and 1,788 feet / 80 degrees
After 52 days of pedaling, we reached the Atlantic Ocean and dipped our front tires.

On the way to the beach, the route took us on another NH rail trail, which was described by one of the riders as “partly okay and partly really bad,” and by Bill as “exciting.” It was beautiful scenery, but at times a very bad trail.

The trail included a tunnel/culvert that required riders to dismount their bikes and duck to get through the tunnel.

We regrouped in Portsmouth to ride together to the ocean. There were family members and friends there to greet us. We also shared a toast at the beach.

After dipping our front tires, we continued our ride by crossing the bridge into Kittery, ME (state #50 for me), where we had lunch before heading to the hotel to pack the bikes and enjoy a celebration dinner as a group.
That’s us with Rick from Tempe, AZ.

On our way back across the bridge we were stopped for the bridge to raise for a tug boat. Another part of the adventure.

And finally, a map showing our daily rides…this was prepared by one of our fellow riders, so ignore the speed portion of the graph.

Thanks to all our friends and family who prayed with us, and encouraged us, throughout this journey. We could not have made it without those prayers and encouragement. You are all precious to us.
