Cedar Falls to Oelwein, 38 miles
Today was a nice recovery day riding to Oelwein, which had a duck theme. I am unsure how they landed on that, but it gave them a theme.

We stopped in several towns along today’s route. One of them had an older gentleness and lady who had made hula hoops and jump ropes and no one was using them so the Tripletts stepped up and started a trend.

We returned after 30 minutes or so and there was quite a bit of activity for both.
They also had a few “trivia” signs. I don’t know the movie “Country” sp the fact that it was filmed in Dunkerton was lost on me:

Another town had a corn “sandbox.”

Not as fun, but a clever idea. There were a few toys in the box…dinosaurs, trucks, etc.
Dunkerton was along a river and the little league was raising money with “river golf.” The object was to hit the ball with a pitching wedge into the swimming pool in the middle of the river. That did not happen with our swings.

Its good that we were wearing our bike helmets since river golf can be a dangerous sport. 😂

The town of Oelwein was decked out with ducks and Alvin, Theodore, and Simon.

And you don’t have to think too long or hard about why we overnights in Oelwein. The RAGBRAI ride director hails from Oelwein.

Looking at a few more of the riders…this bike is set for one rider facing forward and one facing backward.

Bill participated in the “pet a pig” fundraiser.

Dies this look like a $7 ear of corn? It was good, but we found corn at a stand along the road for $5 for a baker’s dozen. This guy was proud of his corn.

Today’s shower left a little to be desired. I had to wait in line for the first time and there was no shade. Once I got a shower, the lights went off for about 15 seconds followed quickly by a blast of cold water…for about 5 minutes. Just as I turned off the water at the end of my shower, lights again went out. Fortunately, I didn’t find out whether the water again tuned cold. I have to give today’s shower a 3.
One more day. Stay tuned for day 7 and the wrap up.
I almost forgot that there was a Railroad museum in Oelwein. With displays that looked like a fifth grader might have prepared them. I did find out that Walter Chrysler worked in Oelwein before he started his auto company.

You and Bill are kind and generous to support the worthy causes in these small Iowa towns. I like the river golf idea!
Thanks so much for sharing!
