TRIPLETT 2025 Coastal Ride

Bill and Lynne ride the Gulf coast

Oh Canada!

Day 41 / Aug 16 / Shelby, MI to Chatham, Ontario / 58 miles and 300 feet / 80 degrees

We were so glad to leave Eastern Michigan and its bad roads and aggressive drivers behind. Ontario needs to work on paving the shoulder of its roads, but at least the drivers were more courteous.

We rode from Shelby to Algonac with a portion of the ride rounding Lake Huron. First, we had a water stop at a park along Lake Huron.

In Algonac, we caught a ferry to Walpole Island, which is a First Nation island between Michigan and Ontario. Before catching the ferry to cross the St. Clair River, we had lunch and a group photo in a park right next to the ferry landing. We are rarely together as a complete group.

Because Walpole is a First Nation island – home of the famous Tecumseh of the Shawnee, the signage is in their language.

They have a fancy customs building on the island.

It’s been a good trip overall. Tonight we went for Indian food – not my favorite. Fortunately, we were able to get Hagen Das bars at the convenience store across the street. Staying at a HoJo’s tonight. I didn’t even know they still existed…I guess just in Canada.

You seem so far away now. Were you able to ride it all today?
