TRIPLETT 2025 Coastal Ride

Bill and Lynne ride the Gulf coast

More beaches, bridges, and breeze

Day 2; Bay St Louis, MS to Pascagoula, MS; 53.7 miles, stiff headwind, cloudy and 81

We had rain clouds chasing us all morning, but we were able to outrun them and ended the day with no rain. We were told that the stiff headwind was keeping the storms at bay. I’ll take wind over rain just about any day.

We rode through Biloxi, MS. I didn’t realize that it has quite a few casinos, as well as lots of coastline of beautiful beaches. The below photo shows a place called Sharkhead. You should be able to see why.

One of the “highlights” of our day is that we missed the lunch ladies. We don’t have specific directions on where lunch will be each day (at least we didn’t today) and apparently, the ladies thought we were at least 20 minutes out (trust me, we are not fast!). Anyway, we didn’t discover that we had missed lunch until we were a couple miles down a very busy road with no shoulder and I called to tell the ladies we would not be turning around, but would find our own lunch. Well, little did we know that we wouldn’t see anywhere to buy food until about half a mile from our hotel. So, the picture below shows our first makeshift stop ( a new friend, Brenda, was with us).

Our real food stop was a Subway about half a mile from our hotel. It all worked out just fine. While in the Subway, a man came up to ask Bill about RAGBRAI since Bill had on a RAGBRAI jersey from 2005. It was a wonderful conversation, and we will look for him when we are in Iowa in July. Perhaps that is the reason we missed the lunch stop. LOL

Once again, most of our “climbing” today was related to bridge crossings, including the Biloxi Bay Bridge, which has a false summit. One of these days, I’ll get some photos of Bill to post. He is along on the trip and is riding all of the miles.

Oh, and tonight’s shower is a solid 7.0, maybe a 7.5. LOL
