Day 38 / Aug 13 / Milwaukee, WI to Grand Rapids, MI w/ a ferry / 38.4 miles and 768 feet / 81 degrees
Hi folks, sorry for the delay in this post. Yesterday was a crazy day with riding to the ferry, a 3-hour ferry and then 40 miles of riding to the hotel in Grand Rapids to find that the hotel had given away 9 of the 18 rooms that were reserved for the group. We finally got a hotel room, at an alternate property at 7:30 pm. We were lucky enough to have a couple of friends from Holland, MI drive up to join us for dinner. We really got to know our friends, Dan and Cecelia, on our Chile trip in March. It was great to see them and catch up.
We made sack lunches before riding to the ferry landing for the 12:15 ferry to Muskegon, MI.

We sailed by the dunes on the Michigan shore of Lake Michigan before docking in Muskegon. Oh, and Darth Vader apparently came out to greet us.

Our afternoon ride from Muskegon to Grand Rapids was mostly on a rail trail.

This guy ran by us when we were at dinner with Dan and Cecelia. He appeared to run this way frequently as he held the flag upright the entire time.

That was nice that you were able to see Dan and Cecelia.
What an interesting ride with both Darth Vader and the American flag runner. You really just don’t know what to expect sometimes ☺️
