TRIPLETT 2024 EPIC RIDE

Bill and Lynne ride the northern tier

Anyone for Day 3 on the NY State trails?

Day 47 / Aug 22 / Cicero, NY to Herkimer, NY / 67.1 miles and 1, 356 feet / 68 degrees and mostly tailwind

As we prepared for the ride, we looked over at the parking lot of Camping World and saw the flag waving to the east. It should be a good morning with a tailwind.

Two miles from the first water stop, I found a small spring stuck in my front tire. I pulled it out and made it 1.5 miles before the tire was flat and needed a new tube. Glenn was on sweep today so he helped me change the tire….kind of…

And then I rode half a mile to the first water stop on the tube with a bad valve and we started over. The second tube exploded as the guys pumped it up, because they had it pinched…so, the third time was the charm.

Lunch was at the State Park commemorating the Battle of Oriskany in the American Revolution. For those of you who like history, the Battle at Oriskany occurred on August 6, 1777 when NY militiamen and Oneida allies faced down an ambush by Loyalist forces, which included Mohawks and Senecas. It is known as one of the bloodiest battles of the Revolutionary War.

And, after lunch, we were back on the Empire State Trail/Erie Canalway Trail, but thankfully today every inch of the trail was paved.

Of course, we had a few views of the Erie Canal.

Anyone want to ride on this road?

And the flowers of the day…

    I like the history lesson!
And I hadn’t realized how long the Erie Canal is.
Sorry about the back to back flats. But good to have a pit crew to change the tube. ;0)
